Basic Flameworking I Sep 24 & 25, Sat-Sun, 10am-5pm
This class is an excellent introduction to the basic history, safety, tools, and techniques of melting glass in the flame of a torch….otherwise known as contemporary lampworking or flameworking. Learn to form marbles, pull stringers, punty, apply color, attach loops for pendants, and make beads. Practice oxidizing, neutral and reducing flames on both pre-mix and surface-mix torches using oxygen & propane. You will get to use both borosilicate and soft glass, and learn to use the kiln for proper annealing of the glass. This overview will get you started right! You keep what you make, plus your remaining glass materials. Look at everything that is included and you’ll realize this is a great opportunity and a great value. Beginning or no experience required. $325
Hollow-Work Oct 22, Sat, 10am-5pm
Learn to work with borosilicate tubing…pulling points (the base for most hollow flameworked glass art), shaping the piece in the flame, and applying color patterns. Intermediate. $210
Basic Flameworking II Nov 19, Sat, 10am-5pm
As follow-up to Basic Flameworking I, you will work with your instructor to focus on improving your skills. Use your tools and gravity effectively. Learn new techniques: how to create the elusive “implosion”, and create different patterns and shapes for your pendants, marbles and beads. Now you’re ready to improve your color control by learning how the oxidizing, neutral and reducing flames react with and develop the different colors. Completing the two Basic classes will give you the consistency and confidence in your skills to move on to various specialty classes like Hollow-work, Orbs, and more. Experience required. $165
